The IMAX run of the newly restored, 3-D conversion of the famous 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz was so successful, it's not transferred to a select number of non-IMAX theaters around the United States and Canada. Now playing: Wicked. This is the award-winning musical based on Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wizard of Oz: Unscripted, Houston, Texas
Now through November 2, 2013: The Wizard of Oz: Unscripted, ComedySportz Arena, Houston, Texas. The ComedySportz improvisation group presents the next in their series of Unscripted shows, The Wizard of Oz. The audience will make suggestions of how to mix up the story, and then the actors will present the show, which will never be the same twice. This is an adult show, with some very possibly naughty things going on, so nobody under the age of seventeen will be admitted. Tickets are $12 per person, or $8 each for a group of ten or more. Wee Faerie Village in the Land of Oz museum exhibit, Old Lyme, Connecticut
Now through November 3, 2013: Wee Faeire Village in the Land of Oz museum exhibit, Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, Connecticut. The museum, home of American Impressionism, holds an annual visit by faeries. This year, they are going to be following the Yellow Brick Road! There will be Oz art, based on all twenty-four chapters of the book, throughout the museum and grounds (and possibly even spreading into the rest of the town!), as well as special events, speakers, and arts and crafts for Oz fans of all ages. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday, as well as Columbus Day, and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $13 for students, $14 for seniors (age 62 and up), $15 for other adults, $5 for members, and those 12 and under are free. The Wonderful World of Oz exhibition, Rockland, Maine
October 12, 2013-March 30, 2014: The Wonderful World of Oz exhibition, Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, Maine. To commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the famous MGM film version of The Wizard of Oz, the Farnsworth Museum will host an exhibit of Oz items from the extensive collection of Willard Carroll. Included will be many examples of L. Frank Baum's books, including first editions, the Witch's hourglass, the green Lollipop Guild member's costume, one of Judy Garland's Dorothy dresses, posters, and many other items. This 3-D CGI animated musical movie, based on the book Dorothy of Oz by Roger S. Baum, has been in production for some time, and it now has a distributor and release date. The movie features the voices of Lea Michele as Dorothy, Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow, Kelsey Grammer as the Tin Man, Jim Belushi as the Cowardly Lion, Martin Short as the Jester, Megan Hilty as the China Princess, and Patrick Stewart as Tugg.
