Wicked play, around the world

Now playing: Wicked. This is the award-winning musical based on Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The book is by Winnie Holzman, the music by Stephen Schwartz, and the show is directed by Joe Mantello. It has done so well, it has spawned the following sit-down companies:

  • Wicked is back touring Australia. Currently planned stops are:
    • Now through January 25, 2015: Capitol Theatre, Haymarket, Sydney, New South Wales
    • Opening February 15, 2015: Lyric Theatre, QPAC, Brisbane, Queensland

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Smithsonian National Zoo (and the birth of new lion, tiger, and panda cubs) and the 75th anniversary of the famous film version of The Wizard of Oz, two of the toniest hotels in Washington are offering a family package celebrating both. Alongside staying overnight in a luxurious room or suite, kids receive a backpack with zoo and Oz souvenirs and activities, a stuffed lion, breakfast, cupcakes, an in-house movie, and visits to both the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Museum of American History, where the Ruby Slippers are on exhibit. The Walt Disney Company has opened its archives and taken some of its treasures to show off in the Windy City. Among the items on display are a concept drawing of the Tin Woodman's castle from the abandoned 1960s movie The Rainbow Road to Oz, and costumes from Oz the Great and Powerful. Now through January 18, 2015: The Wizard of Oz exhibit, Portland Children's Museum, Portland, Oregon. The traveling museum exhibit, based on The Movie, comes to the Rose City. Count chicken eggs and milk a cow on the Gale farm, explore Munchkin houses, build a rainbow, meet the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, explore the Wicked Witch's castle, ride Miss Gulch's bike, and more.
