Wicked play, around the world

Now playing: Wicked. This is the award-winning musical based on Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The book is by Winnie Holzman, the music by Stephen Schwartz, and the show is directed by Joe Mantello. It has done so well, it has spawned the following sit-down companies:

The New York Public Library system trolled its holdings and archives for items that examine why children's books are so important and influential on our lives. Among the items on display are the original Winnie the Pooh and his friends, P. L. Travers' parrot-headed umbrella and the doll that inspired her to create Mary Poppins, and three of W. W. July 17-27, 2014: The Wizard of Oz play, Freeport Performing Arts Center, Freeport, Maine. Celebrating the seventy-fifth anniversary and its own twenty-fifth season, the Freeport Players are presenting the stage adaptation of the famous movie version of The Wizard of Oz. The July 20 show includes a pre-show talk by Willard Carroll, Oz scholar and collector, who will be opening an Oz museum in Maine in the not too distant future. July 19, 2014: "Sandplay, Oz, and the Journey to Wholeness" seminar, UCSD Extension Mission Valley Center, San Diego, California. An examination of how sandplay therapy can help people, using imagery and themes from The Wizard of Oz. An examination of the Oz phenomenon is also part of the session. The leader of the seminar is Gita Dorothy Morena, a noted psychologist who specializes in sandplay therapy. She is also L. Frank Baum's great-granddaughter. Frank Baum met Maud Gage, the woman who would become his wife, the Lyman Frank Baum Foundation is holding a fundraiser at the house.
