Audiobooks are either CDs or audiocassettes (format will be indicated), and unless stated otherwise, are abridged versions of the original stories. For material related to the famous 1939 MGM movie The Wizard of Oz, see aisle 7.

All VHS tapes have now been deleted from the shop unless the material is only available on VHS.

Before the Rainbow: The Original Music of Oz. Music from some of the earliest Oz and Baum dramatizations, performed by James Doyle and the Utensia Ensemble. Includes music from The Wizard of Oz (1903), The Woggle-Bug (1905), The Tik-Tok Man of Oz (1913), the film score of The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1914), The Maid of Arran (1882), and Prince Silverwings (1903).

Broadway: The American Musical. This PBS series looks at the history and development of the Broadway musical, from vaudeville and minstrel shows to the maga-shows of today. Of special interest to Oz fans are the behind-the-scenes look at the development of Wicked, including an extra featurette on this set.

The Cambridge Companion to the Musical (Revised Edition). An examination of the development of the musical, in both the United States and Great Britain, through a number of essays. This edition includes a case study of the development of Wicked for the stage.

Cartoon Craze: The Wizard of Oz and Friends. Collection of cartoons, starting with The Wizard of Oz.

Charlotte Greenwood: The Life and Career of the Comic Star of Vaudeville, Radio and Film by Grant Hayter-Menzies. A biography of the now-forgotten Hollywood comedienne, whose fifty year career went from vaudeville to color film musicals. Of special interest to Oz fans is one of her early stage roles: Queen Ann Soforth of Oogaboo in the 1913 play, The Tik-Tok Man of Oz.

Christmas in the Land of Oz by Tamara Tudor. An original Oz story, in dramatic form.

The Complete Sheet Music from The Woggle-Bug, lyrics by L. Frank Baum, music by Frederic Chapin. In 1905, L. Frank Baum tried to duplicate the success of his hit stage show The Wizard of Oz with The Woggle-Bug, a dramatization of his second Oz book, The Marvelous Land of Oz. It "failed to woggle," as one critic put it, and it only ran for a few months in the midwest. But now the sheet music from the show has been collected in this volume. Also included are a reprint of the original program book for the show, contemporary reviews, articles, photographs, an appendix of several songs from Chapin's 1902 hit show The Storks, and a foreword by David Maxine.

The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film by Michael Ondaatje. Although best known as an Oscar-winning film editor, Walter Murch did direct one movie — 1985's Return to Oz. This book covers his whole career, including a chapter devoted to Return to Oz.

"Defying Gravity" by Idina Menzel. The actress who originated the role of Elphaba in the musical Wicked puts her own spin on the show's signature song in this CD single.

Defying Gravity: The Creative Career of Stephen Schwartz, from Godspell to Wicked by Carol de Giere. It's more than an autobiography. This book looks at the career of the songwriter, and the creative process of creating his shows, including Wicked.

Der Zauberer Von Oos by L. Frank Baum. Audiobook version of the famous story, in German.

Disney's Lost Chords by Russell Schroeder. Outside of Broadway, perhaps the greatest champion of American popular music in the twentieth century was Walt Disney. But not every song ever written for him ended up in a movie. For various reasons, songs and entire features were dropped. Here are many of the songs, along with illustrations and background information. Among the cancalled projects featured is The Rainbow Road to Oz, including four songs.

Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz by Steve and Kathy Hotchner. The script for an audience participation version of The Wizard of Oz.

Dorothy in the Land of Oz. The Wizard's new balloon whisks Dorothy back to Oz, where she meets up with some new friends, and the villainous Tyrone, the Terrible Toy Tinker. Shown on television as Thanksgiving in Oz.

Dorothy Meets Alice, or The Wizard of Wonderland by Joseph Robinette and Karl Jurman. Musical in which two of literature's most famous young women meet.

Dot and Tot of Merryland by Jennifer Kirkeby and Michael Pretasky. Musical based on the book by L. Frank Baum, in which farmchildren Dot and Tot go on a journey through the enchanted land of Merryland.

The Dreamer of Oz soundtrack. The soundtrack to the 1990 television movie about the life of L. Frank Baum.

The Emerald City of Oz by L. Frank Baum. An unabridged, full-cast reading with original music and sound effects of Baum's story on audiocassette. Over five hours running time!

The Enchanted Island of Yew audiobook. L. Frank Baum's story told on an audio DVD.

The Enchanted World of Rankin-Bass by Rick Goldschmidt. All about the Rankin-Bass studio, which gave us such holiday classics as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. Of special interest to Oz fans are the information about the series Tales of the Wizard of Oz and the specials Return to Oz and The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (the latter based on a book by L. Frank Baum).

Fred Stone: Circus Performer and Musical Comedy Star by Amond Fields. A new biography of the famed vaudeville performer and actor, who was probably best known for playing the Scarecrow in the original stage version of The Wizard of Oz.

GodRocks BibleToons: Love God. This DVD from the Bible-based cartoon series includes the episode "The Wizzle of Odd", Gem follows Ruff down a yellow brick and into a curious shop where a bump on the head transports her into the wonderful land of Odd. There she meets Scarecrow, Watering Can and Lion who journey together with her, seeking answers from the wise and wonderful Wizzle. (Sound familiar?)

Hello Kitty: The Wizard of Paws. Everyone's favorite cat with no mouth gets her own chance to follow the Yellow Brick Road.

His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz. Dorothy is the slave of old Mombi, the Witch, who freezes the heart of Princess Gloria. Dorothy and her new friends get away, but can they stop Mombi from doing more mischief? A silent movie made by L. Frank Baum in 1914, and the basis for the novel The Scarecrow of Oz.

I Love the Illusion: The Life and Career of Agnes Moorehead by Charles Tranberg. Agnes Moorehead had a long and honorable show business career. Although she's best known for playing Endora, Samantha's mother, in Bewitched, she also played several roles in the 1933-34 Wizard of Oz radio show, and Mombi in the 1961 television adaptation of The Land of Oz, which should make this book of interest to Oz fans.

Jack and the Beanstalk/The Wizard of Oz. Two classic stories, retold in animated form.

Jim Henson's Mother Goose Stories. These short tales were developed for television by Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, and many of them were based on stories written by L. Frank Baum for his first children's book, Mother Goose in Prose.

Journey Back to Oz. Another cyclone takes Dorothy back to Oz, where she must try to keep Mombi and her army of marauding green elephants from taking over Oz from the Scarecrow. Features Liza Minnelli as the voice of Dorothy.

The Land of Oz. This 1961 television production of the second Oz book, starring Shirley Temple as Tip and Ozma, has never been released on home video — until now!

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. Animated "biography" of Santa, based on the L. Frank Baum book of the same name. Produced by Rankin-Bass (the same folks behind Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and other holiday favorites) in 1985.

Lion of Oz. Animated prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Oscar Diggs and one of the lion cubs from the circus take a balloon ride — only to end up tossed about in a storm and landing in Oz. Oscar and the Lion are seperated, and the Wicked Witch of the East forces the lion to work for her so that she can rule all of Oz.

A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages by Kristen Chenoweth. The Tony Award-winning actress who originated the role of Glinda in Wicked writes her autobiography.

The Magical Land of Oz by Tim Kelly, music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. The script for a simplified musical retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

Making Movies by Sidney Lumet. The acclaimed director writes about his career and the filmmaking process — including his thoughts on directing the film version of The Wiz.

The Marvelous Land of Oz. A delightful stage version of the sequel to The Wizard of Oz, performed by the Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis.

The Marvelous Land of Oz. Baum's sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, in a cassette set so you can listen.

More Treasures from American Film Archives. A collection of short movies of historical interest, ranging from some of the earliest silent movies in 1894 to earlie talkies in 1931. Of special interest is the earliest known existing Oz movie, the 1910 short The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Mouse Tracks: The Story of Walt Disney Records by Tim Hollis and Greg Ehrbar. Once "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" became a hit, Walt Disney realized he could make more money by starting his own record company. This is that company's story. Their output included several Wizard of Oz-related records.

The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. Ashanti plays Dorothy in this television movie featuring Kermit as the Scarecrow, Gonzo as the Tin Thing, Fozzie as the Cowardly Lion, and Miss Piggy as four different witches!

The Muppets' Wizard of Oz soundtrack album. The songs from the television movie, of course, plus a few old favorites from The Muppet Show and other Muppet presentations.

My Favorite Fairy Tales, Volume 4. This video collects three stories: The Magic Carpet, Alibaba and the Forty Thieves, and, of course, The Wizard of Oz.

The Oz Audio Collection by L. Frank Baum, read by Ray Bolger. The world's most famous Scarecrow reads three stories about the Land of Oz, and a non-Oz story by L. Frank Baum: The Wizard of Oz, The Land of Oz, Little Oz Stories (based on Baum's 1904-05 comic page "Queer Visitors from the Land of Oz"), and Queen Zixi of Ix.

Return to Oz. This animated 1964 television special, produced by Rankin-Bass, should not be confused with the Disney movie of the same name. Dorothy finds her silver shoes and goes back to Oz, only to find that the Wicked Witch of the West has stolen Socrates the Scarecrow's brain, Rusty the Tin Man's heart, and Dandy Lion's courage. Can they get the Wizard to help them yet again?

Return to Oz. The 1985 Disney movie. Dorothy, back in Kansas, has recurring dreams about Oz, which worries Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. They take her to a doctor, but Dorothy escapes and makes her way back to a conquered Oz. Can she free the country from the grip of Princess Mombi, and her friends from the Nome King?

Return to Oz books. The 1985 Disney movie Return to Oz spawned a number of spin-off books, including the ones listed below.

Rolling Stone by Fred Stone. The autobiography of the first actor to play the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, on stage in 1902.

Santa Claus Is Missing by Sylvia Ashby. Play script, adapted from L. Frank Baum's short story "A Kidnapped Santa Claus."

The Scatterbrained Scarecrow of Oz by Alfred Bradley. Play script, which presents an original sequel to The Wizard of Oz.

Tin Man. In this postmodern reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, Kansas waitress D. G. finds herself in the Outer Zone and, with the help of three unusual friends, finds out that she's a princess — and the sister of Azkadelia, the Wicked Witch!

The Triplets: The Wizard of Oz. New animated version of the story. (This looks like it may be an episode of a British cartoon series.)

Veggie Tales: The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's. The famous talking vegetables use The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to also tell the story of the Prodigal Son.

Walt Disney Treasures — Walt Disney Presents. This DVD set presents many treasures from the Walt Disney vaults, from the early years of his television show. Included in this set is the fourth anniversary episode of the Disneyland television show, in which the Mousketeers convince Walt to make a movie of the Oz books with songs from the then-planned The Rainbow Road to Oz, a movie that was eventually scrapped. Also features Ray Bolger behind the scenes at the filming of Babes in Toyland.

Wicked cast recording. The songs from the award-winning show about the life of the Wicked Witch of the West, performed by the original Broadway cast.

Wicked karaoke album. The songs of Wicked, with vocals on one disk and music only on the second so you can sing your own version.

Wicked music. The songs of the new show about the life of the Wicked Witch of the West, arranged to be sung or played on your favorite instrument.

Wicked tie-in edition. This is the original novel by Gregory Maguire, which the Broadway show was based on. This edition includes pictures of the original Broadway cast in action.

Wicked: The Grimmerie — A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Hit Broadway Musical by David Cote. The libretto, the lyrics, and all sorts of other information about the current hit show.

The Wizard of Oz. There's a young woman named Dorothy and a cyclone, but that's about where the similarities end between the classic story and this silent film version from 1925. Features Larry Semon as the Scarecrow, Dorothy Dwan as Dorothy, and Oliver Hardy as the Tin Woodman, a couple of years before he started teaming up with Stan Laurel. (NOTE: This film contains portrayals of some ethnic groups that many people consider offensive today.)

These recordings come from early Edison cylinders, 78 rpm records, piano rolls, and even music boxes. As well as songs from The Wizard of Oz, there are also songs from The Woggle-Bug and The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, as well as non-Oz recordings by some of the stars of The Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz in the Wild West by Willard Simms. In this play, the Wicked Witch zaps Dorothy and her friends back to the Old West, where they end up in a shootour against Wild bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, and Billy the Kid!

The Wonderful Galaxy of Oz. On the colony planet of New Kansas, Dorothy, Toto, and her robot Chopper are caught in a wormhole and sucked through a black hole to the distant galaxy of Oz. There, she meets Plantman and Lionman, and they all set off to rid Oz of the evil sorceress Gloom Hilda. This Japanese animated science fiction retelling of The Wizard of Oz starts off familiar, but makes a few twists along the way.

The Wonderful Land of Oz/Jack and the Beanstalk. Two low-budget kiddie matinees from the 1960s, now available for home viewing. The first half is a dramatization of the second Oz book.
